OUR STORY

Dive Deeper into Colour + Craft

The School of SweetGeorgia began with a belief that fibre arts education should be as enchanting, deep, and beautifully produced as the things we create.

Felicia Lo — founder of SweetGeorgia Yarns and a life-long maker herself — built the School in 2017 because she felt adrift in the craft-specific communities that existed. She wanted a place where we could explore the interconnectedness of the different crafts. And she wanted a place that welcomed people who were passionate about more than one craft — people who wanted to understand the whole spectrum of the fibre arts, from fleece to finished object.

If you found your way here through a Taking Back Friday video, or because Felicia’s weaving projects made you think “I want to learn how to do that” — you’re not alone. You are part of a story that’s been building for years.

The mission to save our souls

The School of SweetGeorgia is a community for textile artists — a space for learning, practice, and growth.

We believe the textile arts form a living continuum: from fibre preparation and dyeing, to spinning, to the application of yarn in knitting, crochet, weaving, and tapestry. Colour theory, visual design, and creative skills like ideation, reflection, and record keeping are all part of the practice. These disciplines aren’t independent silos — they’re deeply interconnected.

Our name carries meaning. SOS is an internationally recognized distress signal — short for save our souls — and we believe it speaks to how colour, craft, and making can offer balm for the soul and sanctuary for the creative spirit. The letters of SOS are also woven into our symbol, linked together to represent connection and a continuous, circuitous journey. And practically: we’re here to help along the way.

Meet our teaching team

Every instructor in the School is a practicing maker — someone who actually does this work, has wrestled with the same problems you have, and brings real expertise to every lesson. Not performers. Not presenters. Makers who teach.
